Beauty and Stress - Effects of Stress

By Robin Brain

It's when tension becomes long term - as it has for so many of us - that your mood, your body, and your beauty - suffers. The following conditions are common beauty leaching reactions to stress. Fortunately, most disappear once you stop feeling frantic.

Spots and breakouts: The stress response hormone, cortisol, causes the body to secrete extra androgen, a sex hormone that increases sebum production. This excess sebum clogs pores and leads to blackheads and whiteheads.

Pale complexion: Have you ever looked in the mirror one morning during a particularly hellish week at work and wondered why you look so washed out? Blame it on a decrease in blood flow to the skin, because blood is what gives skin its rosy glow. A stressed body prioritizes its blood flow, sending the majority of blood to vital organs like the brain, heart, and lungs and, therefore, away from the skin. Stress is not a disease. It can, however, lead to numerous ailments and agravate any existing health conditions.

Scaly skin: The diminished blood supply that makes skin pale can also cause flakiness. That's because without a rich supply of blood, the skin's cells renew themselves more slowly. Keep in mind that when you're under stress, your skin may simultaneously break out, look pale, and display flaky patches.

Itchy bumps: When your body is stressed, it often releases histamines, which in turn can create itching, inflammation, rashes, and hives in those of us who are prone to those kinds of things.

If you tend to pick at your skin when you are under stress (don't be ashamed lots of us do that), don't spend time standing in front of mirrors. You'll only end up staring at your face, searching for pimples to squeeze. This leads to infected cyst-like pimples and scars.

Body aches: When tension persists, the primed muscles (remember the fight-or-flight response?) remain rigid and inflexible. Blood flow diminishes, starving the muscles' fibers of oxygen and causing them to shorten. The result: sore shoulders, stiff neck, tight jaw, and/or knotted back, plus enough discomfort to make life miserable. This can really have an affect on your posture and bearing. Most heart attacks occur on Monday mornings. Why? Experts believe it's the stress of having to return to a pressure-filled job. Now what more motivation do you need to find work you love?

Tummy troubles: You remember those nervous stomach aches you got as a kid before your first day of school - or you still get when faced with a week of insane work deadlines or some unpleasant relationship or family issue? When stress strikes, the brain douses the gastrointestinal tract with neurotransmitters and hormones. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract, in turn, responds in several ways - by going into spasms, slowing down or speeding up, or secreting more acids. The not-so-lovely result of all this is a churning stomach, waves of nausea, or an irascible bowel.

Headaches: Clenched muscles in the neck, face, and scalp can lead to tension headaches. Also known as muscle-contraction headaches, these range from mildly irksome to severely painful.
They feel like pressure, often described as a "vice grip," is being applied to the head or neck. For some people, the pain is so bad that shampooing, brushing, and styling hair is painful. Stress depletes the body of B-vitamins, especially vitamin B6. If you're undergoing a prolonged period of stress, consult your health-care provider- about taking a vitamin B-complex supplement.

The No Chip Manicure

By Vernadine Kornegay

Salons are keeping up with the changing times of advance products in the nail tech industry. The new advance and changing times of chipping nail polishes and smudge pedicures is a sign of the pass. Customers are tired of their nail polish and their French manicures chipping within a couple of days. Salons and spas are hearing of the new, no chip nail products and customers are responding by searching for salon/spas that offer such services. There are many no chip products available from Sally Hansen and some no chip products can be found at your professional beauty supply store.

I would like to talk about the no chip systems that you actually paint on with an actual paint brush turning the nail technician into her very own artist with steady hands and patience. The colored paint comes in 4gram or 10gram pots with beautiful colors from your reds to browns to soft pinks. The no chip color can stand up to competition by offering over 100 vibrant colors and stands up against your shelf nail polish with its continuous shine for up to 2-3 weeks. Ranging from every color including your warms, and cool colors the "No Chip Manicure," also has colors such as Bahama Breezes which happens to be nice spring colors. This is the season for many events and planning and the The "No Chip Manicure," can be marketed towards your vacationers, wedding parties, professionals women who like to wear colors, and hard working moms; it comes with a basic manicure and takes approximately 30-40 minutes to apply.

Customers will continue to get their traditional shelf nail color but having an alternative and option for longer lasting nail color should be available to clients. Nail Techs can help increase their income by training to become a "No Chip Specialist.' Training is very important because of specific steps such as sanitizing the hands and nail bed before each and every application, to learning how to remove the no chip manicure. Customers are also taught how to remove the no chip manicure from home which is safe and easy. Once removed (about ten minutes) your clients will see that their nails are stronger and longer. Many argue that it is better than gel because it allows the nail to bend unlike your traditional gel which hardens.

Customers know that some traditional polishes contain harsh chemicals and many nail polish companies are removing the harsh chemicals from their nail polishes. Removing some of these chemicals which are used to preserve the longevity of the nail polish causes the nail polish to chip in the long run. The "No Chip Manicures," have patented a way not to use such harsh chemicals and has been FDA approved for a safe alternative for natural nail care. The products are odorless, requires little or no buffing, and is self forming unlike your traditional gel and acrylic products.

I placed my resume online as a, "No Chip Specialist," and I received at least twenty offers paying as much as 65% commission, plus hourly to come aboard as their, No Chip Specialist. Clients are very well aware and they are looking for salons who offer such a unique service; paying the starting price of $45-$60 for the service. Interested and curious clients are traveling miles to visit a "No Chip Specialist." Currently there are only a few salons in Chicago that offer the "No Chip Manicure, mostly in the downtown Chicago area and not in the outer limits of the city. I decided to debut the 'No Chip Manicure," on the North side of Chicago in the Uptown Neighborhood. Bringing Uptown their first, "No Chip Specialist." Customers must make sure that their specialist is trained and certified in applying a no chip manicure. Incorrect application can cause fungus and lifting of the product.

Not having many salons offering the no chip system within certain geographic areas allows for territorial advantage allowing nail salons to build an enormous clientèle base. The No Chip can last 2-3 weeks without chipping and is getting rave revues from clients who receive the unique service. Once clients learn and experience the product many switch to the "No Chip Manicure," giving up their acrylic application all together. Nail Techs can offer the No Chip to professional men who like for their nails to appear buffed for two weeks. The no chip can be great for your nail biters and can enhances nail growth. Many are Googling for more information on the "No Chip Manicure," and the "No Chip Manicure," is steady becoming a hot commodity. Nail Techs can increase their income by continuing to increase their educational level by keeping up with advances in the new signs of the times and the lucrative no chip nail systems.

Sexy Summer Feet In 5 Easy Steps

By Janice Wee

When summer comes and the heat builds up, will you ditch your boots for airy sandals? Will you go barefoot on the beach or by the pool side, especially when you intend to swim? Are you feet up to it? Looks-wise, that is.

Beautiful feet aren't defined by your shoe size, but by the condition of your skin and nails. A stunning pedicure is just the icing on the cake.

Scaly feet with callouses, fungal infections or rough heels or feet so dry the skin peels off, aren't attractive. Healthy feet with baby soft skin and neat, healthy toe nails, polished or not, are beautiful

Here's how you care for your feet so that they will be healthy, look beautiful and feel wonderful.

1. Eat fish and nuts
You are what you eat. That adage is so true. The nutrients you take in your food will decide how your hair, skin and nails will turn out and nuts and seeds contain omega oils which are necessary for radiant skin, healthy hair and nails.

2. Exfoliate your feet.
Rub a dub dub two feet in a tub. Scrub your feet with a foot scrub, a body scrub or use and exfoliating wash to get rid of dry, peeling skin and allow younger, healthier skin to surface. Exfoliate your feet daily. Pay attention to the rough patches and to your heels.

3. Moisturize your feet.
You moisturize your face, your hands and legs. Why not your feet? In fact, feet respond even better to a massage with a good moisturizing clean. Do moisturize your feet immediately after washing them thoroughly and drying them with a towel.

4. Groom your feet.
Cut your toenails straight across to avoid ingrown toenails. When summer comes, pretty up your feet by painting the nails with your favourite nail polish.

5. Prevent fungal infections.

Once a week, soak your feet in a foot bath that has a few drops of tea tree oil added to clean warm water. For added luxury, you could add a little tea tree shampoo to the water for lather and use that to clean your feet too.

Try this At Home Foot Spa each night if you want seriously sexy feet.

Less is More

By Heather Evans

I am a firm believer in the less is more theory when it comes to beauty as simplicity is good for the mind and the soul...and the earth! Really, do you need ten different products for your skin?
Hands, feet, face, eyes, lips, hair, blah, blah, blah...way too complicated! Now, as far as my skin goes, not that I don't love a great lip balm and something that helps ease those darn little wrinkles around my eyes, but if I can find something (I'll say it again - shea butter and castile soap - the oh so many infinite uses...) that I can use on my face, lips, hands and feet, then I'm all over it!

And do you really need all that make-up? I mean, we all like to experiment and glam it up now and then...sometimes more now than then (oh, yeah!)..., but I also believe in a natural, fresh face look that doesn't require multiple "powder your nose" trips or huge, bulky make-up bags.
Seriously, he's going to find out what you really look like sooner or later...

Hey, a little color goes a long way - I personally go mainly for the eyes (mascara and light liner...and for glam time, I use shadow and more liner), lips (always balm and sometimes color...sometimes crazy bright color) and sometimes cheeks (if they're not already pink from the cold, sun and/or imbibing, I use bronzer/blush). There have been times where I used concealer, but I'm not that much of a fan as it sometimes just makes the problem worse...

Anyway, yes, I know, everyone has their own style and way of doing things - I wouldn't have it any other way, but I also think we've been ingrained (thanks Mr. Big Advertising) to think that we need way too much of totally unnecessary things and that we've got to go through a hell of a lot just to be pleasing to the eye. Sure, to each their own, but, if you're reading this, then I'm guessing you have some sort of interest in the environment, and that to me means less is more...less waste, less time, less energy, less money, less footprints, etc. Plus, it's a heck of a lot more affordable to get just a couple of things for your repertoire...leaving you those extra dineros for those cute little eco-friendly sandals you've been eying up for a while...

So, experiment and try to cut out certain products that you might be able to substitute with something else. Believe me, you CAN do this and still be able to look good while keeping it fresh and fun. Hey, you are who you are, and we've all got a flaw or two or three - that's what makes us us...so learn to love yourself and don't be afraid to be who you are because that, my friends, is what makes you gorgeous!

Get Gorgeous Skin Now!

By Emma Kelly

The latest news in make-up is that skin has to be vibrant and shine. Here I can show you how to get the perfect beautiful complexion that you deserve, whatever your skin tone may be.

For Pale Skin: Iridescent make-up was made for ladies with a porcelain complexion. The latest hi-tech products are like magic for your skin making you look younger and prettier in a flash. For a perfect flawless finish mix an illuminating fluid with your foundation. Warm up your skin by dusting a pink-toned highlighter along your cheekbones.

For Olive Skin: With this skin tone you can get away with wearing no foundation. Make sure your skin is moisturized and use a yellow-based illuminator. For a radiant glow use an illuminating product that has a brush attached so it can be applied straight onto your skin. For a spot of colour, add a warm apricot blusher to your cheeks and apply it with a small brush. The skin is very luminous with this look so apply a tawny shadow to the eyes.

For Dark Skin: As it can be hard to carry off the iridescent look with dark skin, the trick is to stick to your usual foundation and apply shimmer on top. Apply a cream highlighter to the brow bone, bridge of the nose, and tops of the cheeks. Sweep bronzer onto the temples and down to the cheeks. Avoid pale shimmery shadows and go for bright shades to make your eyes shine and stand out.

Please visit my site that has all the latest make-up bargains and deals. Professional make-up, salon hair products and tanning products for that warm summer glow at fantastic prices. http://www.absolutebeautyonline.net/

Is This Dandruff And How Do I Get Rid Of It?

By Louise Forrest

Eek! If that happens to be your first reaction upon seeing a sprinkling of white flakes on your shoulders, and again after a visit to the bathroom mirror, you may be right. You might have a dandruff problem. No one likes dandruff; it can be annoying and embarrassing. So the faster you figure out what is causing your dandruff, the faster you can figure out how to get rid of it.

Why You Might Have Dandruff

Dry skin. Naturally, this is one of the most obvious reasons you may have dandruff. During cold weather or in hot, dry conditions, you may realize your scalp becoming dry and itchy. Flakes of skin will escape from the scalp and end up on your shoulders or entangled in hair. However, usually dry skin means flakes will be thinner and lighter, and changes in conditions could mean the dandruff will go away on its own.

Oily hair. On the other end of the skin extreme, having an excessive amount of oil transferred from your scalp into your hair can entrap flakes or even stick them together. These are usually more noticeable and can be difficult to shake out.

Seborrheic dermatitis. Areas of your skin that produce more oil can be susceptible to this condition. Your scalp may be one of these areas, should your skin be red, very oily, and have flaky scales that are either yellow or white. Double check with your dermatologist to find out if this is what is causing your dandruff.

Psoriasis. Though psoriasis usually affects your elbows, knees, and torso, depending upon the type that you have, it may also affect other various areas. An overproduction of skin cells leads to silvery white flakes that collect in certain areas, and in this case, your scalp.

Contact dermatitis. Frequently dyeing your hair or using certain hair products may actually be leaving your scalp itchy and flaking. This is most likely because your skin is sensitive to whatever product or products are being used, and the reaction is resulting in dandruff.

Ways to Hinder Dandruff

Stress less. Stress is linked to all sorts of problems regarding health and body functions. Excessive stress can increase your chance of getting dandruff, so try to keep your cool so dandruff can be one less thing for you to worry about.

Shampoo more. There are plenty of shampoos out there meant to help manage dandruff. You can opt to buy one of them and follow their directions, or if you are already happy with the shampoo you have, try shampooing daily to help remove excess oil from your hair.

Junk the gunk. Too many hair products can gunk up your hair or irritate your scalp. Find products that combine different uses that your scalp can handle. This way you are not putting so much extra gel and liquid into your hair. These items may also be making your hair oilier, and eliminating them can help allow dry skin to go free instead of collecting atop your head.

Eat healthy. Having a healthy diet can improve your life in many ways, and preventing dandruff is one of the many benefits to eating your fruits and veggies. Zinc, fatty acids, and various B vitamins can be the keys to being flake free.

Enjoy bright, sunshiny days. Research shows that the absorption of vitamin D through sunlight makes people happier. This goes for skin too. Happy skin means healthy skin and that means less or even no dandruff for you! Avoid being overzealous in your sunshine endeavor though; be sure to put on sunscreen before spending any lengthy hours in the sun.

Finding out the correct cause of your dandruff can help you realize the best methods of making it disappear. Always know what is going on with your skin; if you have psoriasis, washing your hair with a dandruff eliminating shampoo is not exactly going to be the greatest option.

How To Make Homemade Body Splashes

By C. D. Hubbard

Body splashes can stimulate, tone, uplift or relax the body depending on the mixtures that you use. They are invigorating sprays or slap-on water based lotions with a lot of different uses.

Body splashes are fun and really easy to make. Body splashes smell great and they can make nice gifts for friends and family on special holidays or for just when ever you want to share something nice with the ones you love for no special reason other than because you care about them.

When you are mixing and storing these body splashes you can use old spray bottles from products you have brought and used they will work great or if you want to buy new bottles you can pick them up at all most any drug store or pharmacy for very little cost.

They come in many different colors so if you want to be creative you can buy bottles of specific colors to use for certain mixtures not to mention they will look more professional if you are giving them as gifts.

Body splashes have been used for thousands of years for many different reasons because they have wonderful healing properties in them. They feel great to the body because when you spray a little on it is very refreshing. I personally use them all the time and I love them my husband loves the way they smell on me too.

Why should you spend hundreds of dollars a year or more on body splashes when you can make them at home in your own kitchen? Have you ever thought about making them at home in your own kitchen? Maybe you have but you just don't know where to start or maybe you haven't but after reading this you will have the basic knowledge to get right to work on creating your own body splash mixtures.

Most guys seem to love them because they do a wonderful job and they don't leave and oily residue on the skin. Did you know that in the past body splashes were known by the name or phrase 'les vinaigres de toilette'?

They were made by a simple principle and that's what I have included here. These are really easy to make but if you have sensitive skin or dehydrated skin you should not use Vodka for a base.

A good base for your body splash mixtures is 2 cups of spring or distilled (bottled store brought) water with 4 oz. of cider vinegar or white wine then you should add 25 to 35 drops of the essential oils of your choice. You should at 3 to 6 drops of each essential oil to the base mixtures.

Some good bases to start with are as follows:
Cider Vinegar
Spring or Distilled Water (bottled store brought)
Vodka (high proof)
White Wine

Don't be afraid to try different mixtures because you can never tell what mixtures you will like until you try them. You always test a small area of skin with a little bit of the mixtures first before you use a large amount on your body just to make sure that you don't experience some kind of an allergic reaction to the mixture.

Some useful essential oils that you can use in your body splash mixtures are as follows:
Basil Oil
Benzoin Oil
Black Pepper Oil
Eucalyptus Oil
Geranium Oil
Grapefruit Oil
Lavender Oil
Lemon Oil
Lemongrass Oil
Mandarin Oil
Nutmeg Oil
Orange Oil
Patchouli Oil
Peppermint Oil
Rose Oil
Rosemary Oil
Sage Oil
Sandalwood Oil

Here are some useful recipes for you to use to make some mixtures and try out. Good luck and I hope that you enjoy!

4 oz. Cider Vinegar
5 drops Grapefruit Oil
5 drops Lavender Oil
5 drops Lemon Oil
3 drops Peppermint Oil

2 tsp. Vodka

Mix all the essential oils together then add them to the Vodka, shake really good to mix them all together. Let them sit for about 5 minutes then add the Cider vinegar and Spring water shake up really well and use when you feel the need.

Beauty Tips For a Natural Summer Glow

By Kara Deruyter

With summer just around the corner, everyone wants to achieve that natural summer glow. Despite the warnings that the sun (and tanning beds) cause pre-mature aging and even skin cancer, they are still as hot as ever. Have no fear, whether you r tan comes from the sun or from a bottle, you can create a very natural glow that will last all day and won't require extensive maintenance.

It is important when using a sunless tanner that you properly prep your skin. I recommend using a gentle scrub to buff away dead skin cells. This will help your tan develop evenly. In addition to this, you can use an over-the counter glycolic acid peel every other day. You will want to apply your regular moisturizer next. It is important to let it soak into your skin so that your tanner will soak in evenly. Otherwise, your tan will appear darker in dry areas of your skin.
It is also important when choosing a sunless tanner for your face, that you choose one made for your skin type. If your skin is oily, for example, make sure you choose a formula that is oil-free and non-comedogenic. If your skin is very dry, you will want to choose a formula that contains some oils to help moisturize your skin. Apply your tanner with a make-up sponge avoiding the eye area and let sink in to your skin before applying your make-up.

I always recommend keeping two shades of foundation on hand. One that is the exact natural shade of your skin and one a shade darker. That way, as your skin begins to darken, you can always blend the shades to create an exact match of your skin shade. It's also a good idea to add a little bit of a liquid bronze highlighter to your foundation. Apply a light coat of liquid concealer one shade lighter than the current shade of your skin around the entire eye area before applying your foundation. For blemishes, use a creamy concealer that matches your current skin tone exactly. Finish with a loose powder that either matches your current skin tone or is up to one shade darker. If your skin is very dry, apply very lightly.

Dust your eyes up to the brow bone with a light bronze or golden eyeshadow. This will highlight your eyes. You can apply in the crease a darker shade to add depth. Finish with a coating of waterproof mascara. A good waterproof mascara will stay put all day and not run even on the most humid of days. Dust your cheekbones and T-zone with a shimmering bronzing powder and finish the whole look with a nude, pinky-nude or bronze lip gloss. If your skin is very dry, you can substitute a liquid or cream bronzer for the powder one. However, when the humidity is high, most skin-types will benefit more from the powder.

This will create a simple natural look. You can dress this up of course with waterproof eyeliner.
You can layer blush in the apples of your cheeks under your bronzer. You can use lipstick and lip liner if you prefer. Most importantly, have fun with your look!

Tanning Equipment - In Search of the Perfect Tan

By Adam Hefner

Are you tired of looking enviously at all of your friends with their dark suntanned skin? Are you in search of the perfect tanning equipment that will help you to look as good as they do? This article offers essential tips to help you locate the tools you need to find that perfect tan.

First, consider how you are planning to get this tan. Do you have time to lie out in the sun for hours each day? Are you willing to spend several hours each week maintaining your tan? If these characteristics don't describe you, then you probably should look for a faster tanning option.

Do you want to spend five to 30 minutes three or four times a week working on a tan? Are you willing to face the risk of skin damage? If this doesn't concern you, and you are planning to take adequate protection, then tanning equipment such as tanning beds or tanning booths may work well for you.

If you tan frequently, you may decide to purchase home tanning equipment such as a tanning bed. If you do decide on this alternative, do your research and make sure that you are buying a bed that is safe to use and is free of any defects or damage. Damaged beds can cause significant harm to your skin.

If you are truly in a hurry to get that tan, tanning lotions and bronzers are available that will help you gain that coveted skin tone more quickly. Keep in mind, however, that your skin is more susceptible to damage when you use these products. Always wear sunscreen and eye protection when tanning.

Tanning equipment such as sunscreen and eye protection is essential to maintaining the health of your tanned skin. In addition, consider products such as moisturizers and lotions that will help lessen the dryness caused by tanning. This will also help minimize unsightly skin peeling.

Are you willing to consider using tanning sprays that make your skin looked tanned? These sprays are much safer than other tanning alternatives. They do, however, wear off within a week, so you will have to return to the tanning salon and have them reapplied more frequently.

If you don't want to use tanning sprays, be careful. Always use eye and skin protection when tanning. Protect your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, such as premature aging and skin cancer.

To learn much more about most types of tanning equipment, visit http://tanningvillage.com/ where you'll find this and much more, including the best tanning lotion.

Why Makeup

By Janette Novotny

The Philosophy and Science of Beauty

'Beauty is only skin deep'. 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. 'It is ones inner beauty that is important'.

Now I can't say that there is anything wrong with these sayings, but the quest for beauty is not entirely superficial. There is a good argument to be made that we are genetically programed to seek out and experience pleasure, and one aspect of pleasure is beauty.

Yes, there is always the caveat, 'too much of a good thing'. It can make us jaded and unresponsive to the very things that once inspired and attracted us to them in the first place.
But the fact remains it is natural that we seek out beauty, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Even as little children with very little social programming we instinctively react to what we feel is attractive or not. In fact, we are taught that it is bad manners to speak out about, or look too hard at another person who comes across as unattractive.

Then there is the social programming of what is considered beautiful or attractive - a pleasure too look at.

Depending on the culture and traditions we become conditioned to accept what is attractive. One need only to look at paintings and sculptures from the past to see what female body type was considered attractive. For example, the body types of the goddesses of the past, who in addition to their unique spiritual qualities, were considered to be very attractive and enticing females of their day. The desirous feminine form of the past would make up any two of our Hollywood goddesses of today.

It is not just social cultural conditioning which determines attractiveness and worth. In religious cultures there is the fat smiling Buddha, or heavy yogi, all the way over to the other extreme of the severe ascetic who may just look like skin and bones. Spiritually speaking, ones true inner character carries more weight than physical appearance. Yet even our religious iconography has re-made over the years, many of our spiritual figures into becoming more attractive figures for today.

But back down to earth, ones immediate self-esteem, can very much depend on how comfortable they feel about how they look. In fact, the downside of having to look beautiful or attractive has often become downright unhealthy, mentally and physically. Beauty contests are a prime example, with so much emphasis placed on the 'winning is everything' mentality. The losers, even though they are given the mantra 'everyone here is a winner', often become depressed, and lose a certain amount of their self esteem afterwards.

Even in everyday situations there is a certain amount of judgement and analysis going on and there is a bit of truth to 'first impressions'. So to help feel good about yourself, dressing up and using makeup are some of the tools which are available to enhance ones self esteem.

Our approach here is to introduce you to truly natural makeup products. Organic as much as possible. There is no sense in becoming more beautiful by putting toxic chemicals onto your skin.
If you need to develop an attitude, lets develop a healthy one. It is not just the perspective of looking better, but the overall feeling of feeling better about yourself.

Beautiful Hair Starts Here

By David Cowley

Everyone wants the look of thick, shiny, beautiful hair, and this includes both men and women. We admire the celebrities who have this and dismiss those who don't, or worry about our own dull and frizzy mane. While it's true that genetics play a very large role in the head of hair we're blessed or cursed with, we can also do much to take care of our own and improve the look and texture. And this means without expense salon treatments! Most ingredients you need to take care of yourself can be found in your kitchen cupboards or pantry.

To understand how to get healthy looking hair you need to have a basic understanding of its structure and what makes it healthy or not. It's important to realize that your hair is nourished at the scalp and the scalp alone. The shaft or strand gets vitamins and oils from the scalp and then needs to push it along to the tip. This is why people are more likely to get split ends and those ends typically look less healthy; they are far from the source of nourishment and so are more vulnerable to being dry and therefore splitting. Also, when we use styling tools on our hair it's usually at the end, to curl them up or under or push them back. This combination of a lack of nourishment and added stress is a recipe for disaster!

Realizing that the hair shaft or strand gets no nourishment when it's away from the scalp is why things such as hot oil treatments and conditioners are necessary. You're adding moisture to this area that isn't getting much. This moisture is one big reason why some hair is shiny versus some that is dull-looking. Of course you need to rinse any oils or conditioners out thoroughly so that it doesn't build up; think of adding lotion to your hands. You want it to be absorbed, not caked on. The same for hot oil treatments or conditioners - let it soak and get absorbed, but rinse the residue away thoroughly.

Vitamins are also important, as they help to add shine and body to your hair as well. Eggs and beer are great sources for the natural nourishment your scalp needs. Eggs are rich in Vitamin A and beer has natural grains that are also helpful. Lemon juice is a natural highlighter for your hair, as it gently bleaches some of the pigment in areas without damaging it the way peroxide does. Adding a little bit of lemon juice to your shampoo can give you the look of costly highlights for so much less money! Vinegar is also a very healthy shampoo that cleanses your scalp and removes the residue of styling products that dull your hair. Mix a fourth of a cup of vinegar or apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water and rinse your hair with this before your regular shampoo.

The real key to healthy hair is to take care of it consistently. Trying a treatment once per month won't be enough; develop a good routine every day and you're sure to have a beautiful mane that everyone will love!

Be advised that if you decided to take Vitamins A internally that vitamin A is stored in the liver and fat cells of the human body and can reach toxic levels. DO NOT take more than the recommended dosage of Vitamin A.

5 Tips for Using Face Masks for Great Skin

By Darla Cruise

Did you know you can create the perfect face mask experience in the comfort of your own home?

Check out the following tips and have a wonderful spa experience at home!

1. If you have sensitive skin, try using masks with ingredients like chamomile and cucumber. These ingredients are more gentle to your skin. People with sensitive skin should try to avoid face masks that contain lanolin, as lanolin has been known to cause skin reactions.

2. Clean your face before you use a face mask. A clean face helps your skin to properly absorb all the rich ingredients in a mask. Not cleaning your face will result in reducing the benefits you'll get out of using the face mask to begin with.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Moisturizing after using a facial mask will give your skin an important boost, and helps to increase the benefits you get out of using a face mask.

4.. Use a thick layer of product. Facial masks are usually meant to be layered onto your skin
thickly - check the application directions if you're not sure. If you're instructed to apply a thick layer, it means the mask is designed to work best when applied thickly.

5. Mud masks for oily skin. If you have oily skin, mud-based or clay-based masks will do the trick. The mask will pick up dirt and oil from your skin, and will work more effectively than a moisturizing mask. If you have combination skin, try using a mud-based or clay-based mask on the oily areas only.

For a great soothing face mask experience, Arcona's tea tree mask can't be beat. Check out more skin care products at Living Sexy Now. Visit http://livingsexynow.com/ today!

Washing your Hair - Carefully!

By Karen G Anderson

There are many varying opinions out there as to how often you should wash your hair. Some people advice everyday while others suggest weekly or longer! I think it depends on your hair type and your personal preference. Clean hair is beautiful hair. But whatever your choice is, be sure to treat your hair with care.

It helps if your hair is tangle free before shampooing, so using a natural bristle brush, distribute the sebum (natural oils that are secreted from your scalp) to the hair ends. Be gentle with your hair. When washing your hair, use a quality shampoo with a neutral ph balance. Concentrate on your scalp, massaging well with your fingertips (not your fingernails), allowing the suds to flow over the rest of your hair. Massaging your scalp will help stimulate blood flow, nourishing the hair follicle, aiding hair growth.

Finish off with a quality conditioner. This helps to minimise tangles, nourish and protect your hair. If hair is oily, apply conditioner to the ends only. Using a final rise of cold water closes the follicles and makes the cuticles to lie flat with the result of less breakage and very shiny hair - Bonus!

Towel dry hair, gently squeezing out excess water. Then, using a wide tooth comb, start at the ends and work your way up to the scalp, combing hair in sections. Wet hair stretches and will break, so handle with care.

Natural air-drying is the least damaging for your hair but this just isn't always practical, so use a low heat setting and only partially dry hair, concentrating on the hair closest to your head. You will feel more comfortable especially if you live in a cold climate.

If you continue to care for your hair you are more likely to keep it longer, both in time and length!

Shampoo Basics - Should I Wash My Hair Every Day?

By Robin Brain

Unless your hair is supremely oily, washing hair every day is not only unnecessary, it can be damaging. Taking every other day off from shampoo - or even 2 or more days off if your hair is dry or damaged - gives your hair a break from the detergents and the inevitable roughness that comes with shampooing, both of which can rough up hair's protective cuticle layer. A day away from shampoo also allows sebum - hair's natural conditioner - to get a foothold in individual strands. And for those who are trying to live life more simply (read: use less stuff, shampooing less frequently means using less shampoo.

Most of us like suds, which is why shampoo manufacturers often make high-foaming formulas. Yet suds have nothing to do with a shampoo's cleansing power. In fact, the lesser-foaming formulas are gentler on hair.

When I was a teenager, my friends and I never admitted to washing our hair any less than once a day - in fact, some of my friends used to brag about washing their hair twice a day. I told this story to a hairstylist once and he laughed. "For some strange reason, people get squeamish if you tell them to stop washing their hair every day. It's as if they think easing up on the shampoo is going to make them unclean," he said. After years of interviewing hairstylists and dermatologists, I've learned exactly what he is saying - and it has nothing to do with giving up bathing or showering.

Go ahead and get in the shower, go ahead and get your hair wet - just don't pull out the shampoo. I think you'll find that a good pre-shower brushing and a heavy dousing of old-fashioned plain water will do wonders for your hair. The brushing loosens up dirt, dead flaky skin, debris, and excess scalp oil, which the water then rinses away. If you're worried about tangles, go ahead and work a bit of detangler or a light conditioner through wet ends then rinse out - again, just no shampoo.

Where To Get Tanning Supplies

By Adam Hefner

Summer is the time to stock up on skin protection. If you plan to enjoy outdoor activities such as boating, swimming or just lying about on the beach you will need tanning lotion, sunscreen or both. At the very least you will need bronzer and perhaps a tanning lamp even if you plan to avoid much of the sun. Getting and keeping a good supply of products is important. There are reliable sources for obtaining all yourtanning equipment and supplies.

The local drugstore or supermarket is usually a one stop shop for skin products. Whether you're looking to stock up on bronzing sprays, creams, lotions or other topical applications you are likely to find a wide variety from which to choose. Keep an eye peeled for special promotions, sales and discounted items as summer draws near. If you're grocery shopping you'll find practically everything you need in the Health and Beauty aisle. If there is a seasonal special you'll find it as you first walk in. Your local drug store may offer an even wider variety. Check out both places--and don't forget to pick up travel sizes of your favorite items.

It's not likely but if you can't find the items you need at the grocery or drugstore, try a convenience store, sometimes referred to as a dollar store. The trick here is to note that not all items are priced at or below a dollar! This type store carries the same high qualty products and brands you'll see elsewhere. You may even pain this setting but you will be in and out of the store in a jiffy. A big bonus if you're in a hurry.

If you still can't find the items you're looking for use the internet. An online store or even the manufacturer may have it in stock and ready for immediate shipping. If you plan ahead and can afford to wait this may be the solution for you. If you can't afford to wait overnight delivery is usually available--for a price, of course.

There are many options available to help you with the tanning process. New ones are being introduced all the time. Watch the newspaper for sales and coupons. Consider your budget, spacing requirements and your skin type. Make a list of what you need and get a head start on summer by stocking up now.

To learn much more about tanning supplies, visit http://tanningvillage.com/ where you'll find this and much more, including tanning lamps.

Put A Stop To Nail Fungus Now

By Madalynn K Wayman

Nail fungus is a common disease affecting a relatively large percentage of the human population. Only through proper information can you help prevent and stop nail fungus from infecting you. Nail fungus is not a severe disease but can cause painful swelling and burning around and under the nails of the hands and feet. There are some risk factors that increase the risk of nail fungus for particular individuals.

In order to address and stop nail fungus, one should have a bit of background information about this disease and what causes it. Typically, fungal infections under the nail are caused by micro-organisms called dermatophytes that thrive is warm moist dark areas. Since the foot is typically covered by a sock and shoe, and because many people sweat profusely around the toes, they are predisposed to dermatophyte infection. Not only do your choice of footwear and hygienic habits affect your risk of becoming infected, but also environmental risk factors play a key role.
Dermatophytes thrive in areas that stay relatively moist and dark, especially showers, locker rooms, swimming pools, and saunas. Walking barefoot in any of these areas increase your risk of becoming exposed to the micro-organisms that cause fungus infections.

How can you tell if you have become infected with nail fungus? A fungal infection may begin as an unassuming white or yellow dot under the nail near the tip. As the fungus grows deeper into the nail bed, the nail itself may become thickened and discolored, brittle and many times painful. The fungus lives under the nail and breaks down the tissue directly beneath the nail, all the while excreting substances that damage the tissue. If you have a fungal infection under any of your nails, you should go about treating it as soon as possible.

Amongst the available treatments that can help stop nail fungus are oral anti-fungal tables like Diflucan and Lamisil. These medications work by allowing the nail to grow free of fungi, but take a rather long time to eradicate the infection completely because one must wait for the nail to grow out; the new infection free nail pushing away the fungi infected part. There are also topical ointments but they are not that effective in clinical trials.

By far the most sound approach to stop nail fungus is through careful preventive measures. One must focus on not exposing themselves to the fungus and keeping their nails clean and dry as possible at all times. This can be done by wearing breathable footwear, using an anti-fungal powder, and not walking barefoot in high risk areas like locker rooms and public showers. With proper preventative measures, one can significantly decrease their risk of contracting this unsightly and potentially painful disease.
