Less is More
By Heather EvansI am a firm believer in the less is more theory when it comes to beauty as simplicity is good for the mind and the soul...and the earth! Really, do you need ten different products for your skin?
Hands, feet, face, eyes, lips, hair, blah, blah, blah...way too complicated! Now, as far as my skin goes, not that I don't love a great lip balm and something that helps ease those darn little wrinkles around my eyes, but if I can find something (I'll say it again - shea butter and castile soap - the oh so many infinite uses...) that I can use on my face, lips, hands and feet, then I'm all over it!
And do you really need all that make-up? I mean, we all like to experiment and glam it up now and then...sometimes more now than then (oh, yeah!)..., but I also believe in a natural, fresh face look that doesn't require multiple "powder your nose" trips or huge, bulky make-up bags.
Seriously, he's going to find out what you really look like sooner or later...
Hey, a little color goes a long way - I personally go mainly for the eyes (mascara and light liner...and for glam time, I use shadow and more liner), lips (always balm and sometimes color...sometimes crazy bright color) and sometimes cheeks (if they're not already pink from the cold, sun and/or imbibing, I use bronzer/blush). There have been times where I used concealer, but I'm not that much of a fan as it sometimes just makes the problem worse...
Anyway, yes, I know, everyone has their own style and way of doing things - I wouldn't have it any other way, but I also think we've been ingrained (thanks Mr. Big Advertising) to think that we need way too much of totally unnecessary things and that we've got to go through a hell of a lot just to be pleasing to the eye. Sure, to each their own, but, if you're reading this, then I'm guessing you have some sort of interest in the environment, and that to me means less is more...less waste, less time, less energy, less money, less footprints, etc. Plus, it's a heck of a lot more affordable to get just a couple of things for your repertoire...leaving you those extra dineros for those cute little eco-friendly sandals you've been eying up for a while...
So, experiment and try to cut out certain products that you might be able to substitute with something else. Believe me, you CAN do this and still be able to look good while keeping it fresh and fun. Hey, you are who you are, and we've all got a flaw or two or three - that's what makes us us...so learn to love yourself and don't be afraid to be who you are because that, my friends, is what makes you gorgeous!
