Discover to How to Reduce Freckles and Age Spots

By Ian Reygan

Some people only have a few freckles, while others have zillions. What exactly is a freckle and what can you do about them? A freckle is a spot, usually light tan or brown in color, that is made up of melanin, which is a pigment found in skin cells. Usually, people with fair skin tend to have more freckles than darker skinned people. If you are fair skinned and have red hair, you may be predisposed genetically to have freckles.

For many, freckles are caused by exposure to the sun, though some people inherit the predisposition from their parents. Finding freckles on babies is rare, and while some adults develop freckles, by far the largest group to experience freckling is children.

Because small bodies don't typically produce enough melanin to protect the skin from bright, intense sunlight, the body activates the skin cells to produce more melanin in order to protect it.

In most cases, freckles fade with age, though fair-skinned people may experience freckling throughout life, since their bodies don't generally produce enough melanin either. Basically, the lighter skin you have, the more freckles you can expect.

For most people, freckles may be found anywhere on the body, though face, arms, chest and back are the most common areas. While most people don't care how many freckles they develop, or where they are located, some people don't like them a bit. While it's difficult, if not impossible, to remove freckles, your best bet would be to prevent them from developing in the first place. The most common method of protecting the skin these days is through the use of sunscreens, especially those rating an SPF of 15 and above. Wearing light, loose-fitting clothes that cover sensitive skin of the face, neck and shoulders is also an option.

For those with more serious freckle issues, bleaching creams may be the next best product on drug store shelves, and fairly reasonably priced. Make sure that any cream you purchase contains hydroquinone and kojic acid, which can be obtained without a prescription. Stronger ointments or creams will require you to visit a physician or dermatologist. However, keep in mind that these products must be used for several months before results normally appear.

Another treatment available, that not only fades freckles, but age spots and other skin blemishes as well, is called Tretinoin, which contains Vitamin A and Retin-A. Again, this type of ointment takes several months to notice results as well. For some with severe freckling, two other options are available, but they can be quite expensive. The first is called cryosurgery, and involved freezing the freckle with liquid nitrogen. The second method is laser treatment, and can combine one or several lasers that reach to certain skin depths.

Freckles are not harmful, but make sure that you know the difference between a freckle and a mole, and know the signs of unusual growth that signal skin cancer such as melanoma. Know your body, and protect it to the best of your ability, to help prevent skin conditions that cannot only be annoying, but dangerous.

How To Choose A Skin Care Moisturizer Cream

By Robert Dixon

(1) Moisturizers work by controlling the amount of water and sebum from the sebaceous glands that lubricates and moisturizes the skin, besides adding emollients from the product.

(2) Attracts moisture from the air to the skin hence the term "humectant"

Two different products to choose from.... lotions versus creams

Lotions: have more water content are used more in body applications

Creams: are more concentrated are used for "problem areas" eg. the eys, as wrinkle creams

Selecting The Best Skin Care Moisturizer Cream
What type of skin do you have? Is your skin normal, oily, dry? Once you have those questions answered you can concentrate on the product selection. There is only ONE main rule to keep in mind in your selection process.

"What goes on your skin will be absorbed into the bloodstream". This a very important point. Many skin care products are chemical based, one main concern is that chemicals individually can be toxic, but when combined, research is showing that many form nitrosomines ( a very potent carcogenic ).

What To Avoid

Chemicals
If the ingredient list on the label are those which only a scientist would know, my rule of thumb is if you don't know what it is don't use it. You don't have to be the fall guy for questionable ingredients. As mentioned above this could be a deadly combination.

Many skin care products ingredients are derived from petroleum. Here is an example. Benzine. Benzine is a petroleum derivative and is in the top ten of the most dangerous chemicals, a very potent carcinogen.

Anyone want to guess where it is used? That's right, in cosmetics, in the form of acetone in nail polish remover, also used as an astringent. So why do they use them? Because chemicals and fillers are dirt cheap and profit is king, not you.

Artificial fragrances and color
One of the leading causes of allergies and skin reactions. There can be 100's of chemicals used in that "sweet smelling" fragrance that are toxic to the body and the skin. Because fragrance creation is "unique," by law, manufacturers do not have to list ingredients that are considered "trade secrets",which means anything could end up in that product.

The Best Choice
The most benefit will always be from all natural ingredients.Despite the fact this is the 21century we haven't changed physically from 20,000 years ago. We are a natural species on this planet and like all species will always respond and depend on the natural ingredients of nature. That is what our body needs to survive, this is what we need to thrive and this what keeps us healthy including our skin.

The best selection of ingredients for your skin that will give outstanding results will always be from essential oils and pure botanicals.

The really good all natural botanical skin creams do a lot more than just moisturize. These creams also sooth, heal and nourish the skin. Natural skin products that are all natural in every sense of the word are best. Creams are a better value than lotions, creams are concentrated, you use much less.

Pure Botanicals And What They Can Do For You.... Just a partial list
does not clog pores, rejuvinates the skin, regenerates new skin cells, penetrates deep into the skin, small molecular structure for quick absorption restores tone, improves texture, softness and suppleness smooths fine lines and wrinkles maintains ph of skin, powerful antiaging
So I leave you to consider which choice is best, many times and many years from now nature will always be the great healer. No chemical or synthetic anything ever will

Beauty and Makeup Tips for Oily Skin

By Angie L

Have you ever wondered why your skin is always so shiny? Do you feel as though you're fighting a losing battle to remove the shine from your chin and forehead? It’s probably because you have oily skin. You can thank your mom and dad for it too. Overly oily skin is a family tradition passed down throughout the years, just like grandma’s ring.

You can add more thing to our long list of things we can blame on our men. We can blame oily skin on men. There is a male hormone called androgen and that is what controls the oil production in the skin. Many women notice that their skin feels oilier around their menstrual cycle and during menopause. This is from fluctuating levels of androgen.

Beauty experts are here to help. They have put together a list of helpful tips for you to follow for fighting the effects of oily skin.

Taking Care of Oily Skin - Caring for your skin now is extremely beneficial for your skin in the future. It is important to take care of you skin, both inside and out. Drink plenty of water so that the skin remains hydrated. Water is the magic elixir that cures everything sometimes. Taking vitamins like vitamin B2 and B5 will also aid your body. These vitamins can help the skin look more radiant and improve paleness. If it could, your skin will thank you ten years from now for following all of the above advice.

Products for Preparing Oily Skin for Makeup - When cleansing, use an oil-based cleanser since it will help dissolve the oil on your skin better. Try not to use any harsh cleaners that leave the skin feeling tight. It will restrict oil flow and lead to clogged pores later which then lead to a zit breakout. Also, massage your face when cleansing to avoid pushing dirt and oil into the pores. Scrubbing will only clog them. Then, rinse with warm water to help dissolve any excess oil. You can also try using a mud or clay masks one or two times a week. Avoid products that contain alcohol since alcohol will dry your skin. Petroleum based products such as mineral oil contain too much oil and will further clog pores. Use items containing acetone. It dissolves oil better.

Moisturizers need to be oil-free. Some people only need to moisturize certain areas such as around the eyes while others will need to moisturize their entire face.

Makeup for Oily Skin - There are some things that need to be avoided and some that you should look for in makeup designed for oily skin. There are certain makeup companies that are known for their work in designing products for specific skin types. You need to find one that suit your needs and has a reputation for excellent care and products.

You will also want to:

Try -
Find foundations that contain titanium dioxide, a naturally occurring sun protector.

Buy makeup containing serecite to reduce the appearance of pores and help absorb oil.

Kaolin clay added in foundation will help oil control.

Zinc oxide used in makeup will act as an anti-inflammatory for your skin.

Avoid -
Avoid products containing oil from petroleum. This includes mineral oil. Use oil-free makeup or makeup that is designed to benefit oily skin.

Avoid makeup that contains alcohol. Alcohol will strip the skin of oil, which may cause the body to produce even more.

Look for ingredients such as bismuth oxychloride and dimenthicone. Both will clog your pores and cause blemishes. These are commonly found in foundation and other powder based products.

How about some good news? Oily skin keeps the skin looking younger. Over the years, people with oily skin tend to wrinkle less than people with dry or normal skin.
