Outdoor Versus Indoor Tanning - Who Wins?
By John CatechThe first and most obvious point of discussion when it comes to outdoor versus indoor tanning is control. Many a person has received a sunburn on a cloudy day erroneously believing the absence of a visual sun signified need for cautious protection. Silly fools!
The only combatant a sun worshiper can have is the use of either an effective sun block or a tanning lotion that will regulate just what effect exposure to the sun may have. Yes, like its artificial counterpart, "users" can regulate the time exposed to ultra violet (UV) rays, thus controlling somewhat of the effect. And, both blocking type and tanning lotions are manufactured with varying levels of effect, the former allowing increased (or decreased) protection while the latter can offer varying levels that enhance the overall tanning process.
Additionally, outside tanners must be forever conscious of all the varying nuances that have effect on the bronzing process like time or year, day, location taking in the sun and other factors that can fluctuate making outdoor exposure less controllable.
The advantage visiting a tanning salon is the immediate access to control. Your skin will tan using UV light just as it would outdoors. However, emission of this light is easily controlled through machine settings and, unlike the vagaries of outdoor tanning, will not subject participants to accidental "sunburns" when following the tanning bed, and salon operator's, instructions. Try grabbing a hold of the controls when sitting outside lounging by the pool.
Therefore, when seeking greater control of the sunburn process, by all means, go outside and sit for awhile. Indoor tanning in a controlled environment is not only safer, it is more efficient. It can also be far more convenient. It's tough to maintain an outdoor-produced tan during inclement weather, even when living in the tropics. Repeated days of stormy, rainy weather inhibit constant tanning sessions whereas patronizing a commercial tanning salon limits your sessions to that establishment's hours of operation. Also, indoor tanning can happen at night.
Plus, controlled doses of UV rays can be beneficial to people suffering from psoriasis or osteoporosis since exposure to UV rays can produce the necessary Vitamin D used to combat these conditions. Anyone who is under a doctor's care for prescribed UV exposure can benefit from frequenting an indoor tanning salon. The benefits from exposure to UV rays are many.
Always consult with a qualified physician before undergoing any UV treatment you might believe is beneficial. If your doctor agrees, weather conditions won' keep you from daily sessions when using indoor tanning solutions. Through using a controlled environment, you eliminate the wide differences in intensity accompanying exposure to natural sunlight. Therefore, you'll gain greater control of both skincare and possible healthcare.
While one can obtain a tan under natural conditions, the safer process is to employ the use of a professional tanning bed that controls the UV rays. Additionally, there are no government agencies regulating the outdoor tanning industry as there are that oversee commercial tanning salons. Equipment is inspected, verified and certified as are the business owners who go through instruction and become license and certified. Through their experience, salon operators gain a great deal of specific tanning knowledge that they use when guiding customers to pleasant and productive experiences.
