Soap Through the Ages
By Shane AndrewsDid you ever wonder when soap was invented? In prehistoric times man would use just water to rinse themselves of dirt. Then around 2800 B.C. Jars were found in Babylon that held a type of soap mix. The ancient Egyptians loved their bath houses, as well as the Romans. Ancient Europeans made types of soap. The Celts, early English were also known for making soap.
Some of the earliest soap was made from animal and vegetable oils, salts or ashes. Glycerine soaps are a derivative of the soap making process. Soap was seen as a luxury item, however, by the mid 1800's America, became a major manufacturer of soap after discoveries of being able to use commonly found components such as table salt (sodium cloride) Soap is now considered a necessity rather than a luxury.
Today, quality hotel soap can contain a variety of different oils and scents to distinguish a particular soap. Ingredients can be checked to make sure that animals are not tested on, or animal fats used. There are many brands that do not test on animals to make their soaps.
