Dark Circles Under the Eyes
By Marcus RyanYou can instantly look ten or more years older if you have dark circles under your eyes. Dark circles and puffy eyes also make you look tired, washed up, and unhealthy, even if you aren't ill. Are you wondering what causes dark circles under the eyes and how to cure them? Glad you asked.
Let's start with understanding the cause. Interrupted sleep cycles or sleep deprivation are common causes of dark eye circles but certainly not the only cause. Sinus congestion and nasal inflammation can cause dark circles because the blood flow to the tiny vessels around the eye is impaired. This causes the blood to pool and form the dark circle we are all familiar with.
Fluid retention can lead to dark, puffy eyes. Some puffiness can be common with pregnancy, variations in hormones, age, and of course fatigue. Try raising your head ever so slightly by using a different pillow. This can cause stop the fluid from pooling under the eyes. A low carb diet can also reduce puffiness because it will stop water retention. Eating foods rich in antioxidants can reduce puffiness and dark circles.
Cold compresses can reduce puffiness and dark circles. Add a couple of drops of lavender in 2 cups of water, mix, then use a cotton ball to apply to the skin. Press excess moisture out of cotton ball before applying to the eye. Cold tea bags work well too.
There are also some good products on the market that can reduce the look of dark circles.
Regular moisturizing cream is not capable of doing that. Look for products that specifically tell you they can reduce dark circles. Many times eye cream will do both - reduce puffiness and dark circles. Eye creams with vitamin K are good because they will make the tiny capillaries just below the skin stronger and this will keep the blood flowing and reduce or eliminate dark circles. These eye creams can even help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles that can also make us look much older than we are.
It is important to read the labels so that you know what ingredients are present. You don't want to use products that are harsh to your skin. You also should not have to wait 30 days to see any results. You should be able to see a noticeable difference almost immediately. And don't buy based on price. Being the most expensive doesn't make the eye cream any better (or worse) than a lower priced product. It really is all about the ingredients.
Now that you know the causes of dark circles under the eyes you can pay attention and perhaps make changes to reduce your dark circles. And of course you can always turn to a quality eye cream.
