Saving Money On Fashion During The Credit Crunch

By Cindy Rossiter

One of the joys of knowing about your colouring and the colours which suit you is that it helps to save money. This has never been more useful than it is during the current economic climate. Indeed the initial cost of a colour analysis consultation is saved over and over again. How? Well when you have your colours analysed you receive a wallet of colours, all of which suit you and more importantly you learn what your best neutral colours are and they are all highlighted in your colour wallet. This information is invaluable. (Colour analysis involves having a consultant try several different swatches of colour around your neck and looking which colours in particular suit your eyes, hair and skin).

Why is becoming aware of our best neutral colours so useful? The answer is because if we buy items that we are going to wear over and over in a good neutral colour for us then they will go with lots of our clothes. For instance, a pair of pewter colour shoes, if you can wear pewter will go with black, brown, green, purple, grey, scarlet and so on. Or a stone coloured coat will go over taupe, black, rose, olive, charcoal and look good with all of them.

A woman with warm colouring – green or brown eye, possibly mid blonde or auburn hair and a warm fair skin will be able to use chocolate brown as a good neutral colour. So having the basics – a pair of shoes and or boots, a coat or jacket, handbag, belt, watch strap etc in chocolate is a great idea. Whilst a man with cool colouring – blue or brown eye, grey or dark brown hair and a cool pink toned skin will benefit from using black for his shoes, belt, watchstrap, briefcase etc.

Its also great for the business person who wears a lot of suits as a suit in a neutral colour is so much more valuable than any other in terms of cost per wear. To return to our woman with warm colouring – if she bought a chocolate skirt suit, she would already have matching shoes and bag if she’d been buying her neutrals and the suit could be worn with cream, moss, peach, tomato, mustard, salmon and so on.

Not only does buying items in a good neutral colour for you save money, it also helps the way you look, in that you appear co-ordinated – and it saves time, particularly of value in today’s hectic world, this is because you always have something to put with the other items in your wardrobe – or if you go out and buy something new – you will always have other things in your clothes that it will go with and won’t be straight back to the shops looking for extra items.

There are several neutral colours, not just chocolate, black and stone and the trick is knowing which ones are best on you for your individual colouring. Personally I like to swap between a few of them, but one suggestion is wearing one for the autumn/winter season ex. black and another during spring and summer to ring the changes ex. navy.

Whichever way you wear them, knowing your best neutrals will not only save you time but money. It’s alright saving a few pence on food shopping by changing the way you shop but buying the best colours for you will save the average clothes shopper so much more.
