What You Need to Know About Water, Anti-aging and Your Health

By Jeff Behar

These simple tips about water and hydration can drastically improve your health and appearance:

Drink more water every day. Water plays the single most important role in our lives in achieving and maintaining good health, avoiding rapid aging, and development of so many debilitating conditions. Consider this: Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. The body needs water to function. Many parts of the body contain water, including the brain, blood and lean muscle. Water helps you look good. By flushing out toxins and impurities, water can make your skin clearer, smoother and younger looking. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. Proper hydration supports skin health and minimizes the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Water also helps dissolve nutrients (including anti-oxidants) to make them available to the body, as well as and oxygen to cells. Anti-oxidants help fight free radicals, one of the primary causes of aging.

Regarding how much to drink, a good estimate is to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half. That gives you the number of ounces of water per day that you need to drink. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. If you exercise you should drink another eight ounce glass of water for every 20 minutes you are active. If you drink alcohol, you should drink at least an equal amount of water. When you are traveling on an airplane, it is good to drink eight ounces of water for every hour you are on board the plane. If you live in an arid climate, you should add another two servings per day. As you can see, your daily need for water can add up to quite a lot.

Drink toxin free water. Water is one of the most important factors when becoming and staying healthy and vibrant. Our bodies are 70% water and our blood is 94% water - if we follow the recommendation to drink at least two litres of water per day and this water is acid and polluted - imagine what this will do to our bodies?!

There has been much discussion over the past few years about the quality of the water we drink and the effects that this may have on our health. Many health experts believe that the low-quality of tap water can pose health concerns, particularly if we rely upon this as our main source of water when consuming the recommended 2%2B litres each day.

Your tap water might not be toxin free. Plumbing can contain lead solder and can be a source of toxic pollution to your body. If you find out you have lead plumbing, and water is abundant in your area, let the water run for about thirty seconds before filling your glass. This can reduce the amount of lead - and the bad taste that accompanies it - in the water you drink.

Bottled water if left in the plastic bottle may also be a source of toxins to your body. Studies show that many of the plastics used for bottling water leach out chemicals, toxic to the body. If you are drinking lots of bottled water you msy in fact slowly be poisoning your body. One optin is to drink bottled water from glass bottles, or to include a reverse osmosis filter on your tap water to filter out toxins that might otherwise enter your water source and your body.

Consider adding alkaline water to your diet. Although still consider controversial by some, there are many believers that by adding alkaline water to your daily diet you can counteract the acidifying effect of eating processed foods and many other foods that when digested, acidify in the body. Acid wastes (from the lifestyles we lead - not only from food and drink, but also from stress and other pollutants) are dumped into the bloodstream and lymph, and then are transported to the liver and kidneys for the detoxification processing and elimination.

The pH level of our internal fluids affects every living cell in our bodies and the effect that over-acidification can have upon the health of our bodies is immense, with a chronically over acidic pH creating an extremely negative environment which affects all cellular functions from the beatings of the heart to the neural workings of the brain. There are many studies linking acidosis to premature aging and chronic health conditions.

Acid water ((less than pH 7) is a hotbed of microorganisms, bacteria and viruses. There is an ever increasing number of alternative medicine practitioners that believe that In order to hydrate your body optimally, you need to drink water that is alkalizing and mineral rich. It is believed that alkaline water helps to neutralize acids and remove toxins from the bod and also acts as a conductor of electrochemical activity from cell to cell.
